All About Us

Bolonka UK is a new website created by a breeder in Wales, to assist in the recognition of the Bolonka in the UK. This amazing breed were first imported a decade ago by Carole Blackburn-Harvey, and featured is a photo of her beautiful and famous "Inkstain". The Bolonka numbers over 160 dogs and puppies in the UK now, yet they are still not recognised by the Kennel Club.

The Bolonka is popular in Europe, and is recognised in over 14 countries world-wide, including Russia, Poland, Netherlands, Ireland and America. They can be Shown in these countries.

A dedicated few people worked hard behind the scenes to collect and collate data, and submitted an application to the Kennel Club for Breed Recognition in 2023. Unfortunately the application was declined as the Bolonka is not yet on the FCI register. One day...

What is a Bolonka?

The Bolonka is part of the Bichon family, and is a small pedigree companion dog that is funny and playful, clever beyond words and intensely loyal to its family. It has a wavy or curly, medium-length coat that is hypoallergenic. Also known as the Russkaya Tsvetnaya Bolonka, Bolonka Zwetna in Germany and Bolognese Colourful, they were originally bred to be the ultimate house pet for apartment living. Sweet, loving, intelligent and willing to please, the Bolonka is friendly to all, and shows no sign of aggression. Image and brief description taken from AKC.org
